Police have arrested a teacher and a student in Cumilla's Debidwar upazila over allegations that the student was used to evaluate SSC examination answer scripts.
Md Bacchu Mia, senior teacher and acting headmaster of Abdullahpur Haji Amir Ali High School, and student Mehedi Hasan were arrested in connection with the incident, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Education public relations division.
The ministry said a video recently circulated on social media and in various media outlets allegedly showed Bacchu Mia, who was assigned as an examiner for the SSC 2026 General Science examination, allowing his student, Mehedi Hasan, to assess the answer scripts on his behalf.
After the matter came to the attention of Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, he directed the authorities to conduct a prompt investigation and take necessary legal action.
Following the directive, the deputy controller of examinations of the Cumilla Education Board filed a case with Debidwar Police Station against Bacchu Mia and Mehedi Hasan.
The two have been charged under Sections 10, 12 and 13 of the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980, the ministry said.
