CHANDPUR, June 14 : Poranpur Govt Primary School, a government primary school in Kachua upazila's remote area (Koroiyya Union), has grabbed the honour of "Best Govt Primary School" in the district under ''Primary Education Padak-2026''.

There are around 1,200 government primary schools in eight upazilas of the district. Of them, 171 are situated in Kachua upazila.

As per government rule, a selection committee, headed by Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Ziaur Rahman comprising District Primary Education Officer Mosaddek Hossain and others concerned has declared this school as the best one in the district recently after scrutiny and considering 12 criteria of an institution. This school was found to have fulfiled all criteria.

The news of recognising this school as the Best Govt Primary School has created much enthusiasm and cheers among its students and teachers and guardians as well as locals in the upazila.

Talking to the FE correspondent, with a big smile, the school's headmaster- Md Khorshed Alam- and assistant teachers -Marjana Akter and Rahima Begum- said all credit goes to the school managing committee, ex- students and local guardians.

Besides, Kachua Upazila Primary Education Officer Shahina Aktar also extended full co-operation in this regard.

When this correspondent visited the school recently, it was observed that the school complex has been decorated colourfully inside and outside

with pictures of various scenes and sceneries. A stranger can easily get impressed to see them.

The school, though located in a remote area, has a healthy environment for teaching and learning and the little learners can also play indoor and outdoor games during leisure. The school has less dropout record too.

The school has eight trained and experienced teachers and over 200 students.

The school's one-storey building needs to be vertically extended to provide a further comfortable learning environment and to cater to needs of the increasing number of students.

According to locals and assistant teachers, most students of the school are from poor families, and are children of marginal farmers who have barely enough earnings to keep body and soul together.

Most of the time, the little learners have to remain half-fed and cannot stay in classes for long due to acute hunger and weakness; nor they have school dresses either.

Therefore, they have appealed to Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Huque Milon (local parliament member and a proud son of the upazila) to arrange mid-day meal for them all too.

Talking to the FE, some students- Arafat Hossain, Aiman Abdullah, Meherun Nessa Nishat, Fatema Akter, Mariam Akter and Ryadul Islam- and a poor guardian named Md Kamrul Islam have also echoed the same demand and called upon the Education Minister to include this school of remote area in the list of mid -day meal programme as soon as possible.

The results of this school is quite satisfactory-said Headmaster of the school Md Khorshed Alam adding that he works hard and he has an aim and vision to elevate this school to the status of the Best One Govt Primary School in the entire Chattogram division.

Talking to the FE, Upazila Primary Education Officer Ms Shahina Akter said although this school is in a remote area, it has good results, good extra- curricular activities and less dropout students.

The headmaster and assistant teachers are sincere about their duties too.

It may be noted here that mid-day meal is allocated by the government for government primary school students in four upazilas- namely Chandpur Sadar, Haimchar, Matlab Uttar and Matlab Dakhshin.

But it is widely alleged that thousands of children, enrolled in the government primary schools in Hajiganj, Kachua, Faridganj and Shahrasti upazilas are still deprived of mid-day meal. They have appealed to the government to arrange mid-day meal for them too as soon as possible.
