At least six people sustained burn injuries following a fire that erupted on an oil tanker on Sunday afternoon in Chandpur.
The incident in the Dakatia river at the No 5 Koila Ghat area in the city, while preparations were being made to unload fuel at the Padma Oil depot.
The affected tanker, MV Sadia Enterprise, was carrying petrol and diesel from Chattogram, according to a bdnews24.com report.
The fire started when a generator exploded in the engine room, said Syed Morshed Alam, deputy assistant director of Chandpur Fire Service.
Among the injured, three crew were identified as Golam, 50, Modhu Mia, 55, and Zilani, 30. Two of them were identified with a single name.
Golam has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment due to severe burns covering 50 to 60 per cent of his body.
The remaining crew members are receiving medical care at Chandpur Government General Hospital, where their conditions are reportedly improving.
Fire Service teams responded quickly to the scene, with four units working for about an hour to control the blaze.
Morshed said the initial assessment suggests the fire was caused by the generator explosion in the tanker's engine room.
