A Dhaka court on Tuesday cleared Comilla City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku of graft charges in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge of Dhaka's Special Court-8 Shamim Ahmed passed the order, following a petition filed by Sakku's counsel Masud Ahmed Talukder, saying there was no element to frame charges against him.

Earlier on May 5, Sakku got permanent bail in the graft, says a UNB report.

On April 18, a Dhaka court issued a warrant of his arrest.

On May 7, 2008, Shahin Ara Mamtaz, assistant director of ACC, filed the case against Sakku and his wife Afroza Jesmin for concealing information of wealth worth Tk 125 million and amassing wealth of Tk 45.7 million illegally.

On February 4, 2016, the ACC submitted a charge-sheet against the mayor dropping the name of his wife.
