Convener of Jatiya Oikya Prokriya Dr Kamal Hossain on Tuesday called upon the people of all walks of life to join together for 'greater national unity' to ensure a good national election.
"People are the owners of the country while the government is only their service provider. If they (govt) don't understand it, people need to play the role of the owner (of the country) to make them understand it," he said.
Kamal, also the president of Gano Forum, came up with the remarks while talking to journalists at Jashore Press Club before going to Khulna to address a public rally, reports UNB.
He said they have taken the initiative for creating the national unity so that people can enjoy the benefits of democracy. "People need to involve with it in the interest of the country and ensure good parliamentary polls."
The noted jurist also said people must be active to realise their rights, protect human rights, and ensure good governance and constitutional rule in the country.
"There's no reason to feel helpless. We must realise our demands from the government...we need to apply our strength keeping it in mind that we've some responsibilities as the owner of the country," he observed.
