Residents in parts of Dhaka are set to face eight hours of low gas pressure as urgent pipeline repair work continues in Ashkona.
On Thursday, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company said in an emergency notice that the repairs are being carried out to address a low-pressure issue.
The disruption will continue from 1pm to 9pm, reports bdnews24.com.
During this period, residents in Ashkona, Uttar Khan, Dakshin Khan, Uttara, Koshaibari, Prembagan, Kawla, and areas around Shahjalal International Airport will experience “severe” low gas pressure, affecting household cooking and commercial use.
Titas Gas apologised for the temporary inconvenience caused to customers.
In recent days, several disruptions have also been reported in the capital and areas under Titas supply.
On Apr 21, gas supply in the country dropped by nearly 400 million standard cubic feet per day (mmcfd) after a floating LNG terminal at Moheshkhali went offline due to technical issues, leading to widespread low pressure across Titas-served areas.
Supply to the national grid only resumed after the terminal’s defects were rectified.
Earlier, on Apr 9, a major gas crunch hit parts of the city, including Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, Kalyanpur, Mirpur, and Tejgaon, during repairs to a damaged line on Mirpur Road.
Titas explained at the time that a leak in a 12-inch diameter distribution line in the Darus Salam Main Road area forced technicians to shut down additional valves to manage pressure in the system.
In January, a valve explosion in Mirpur Road’s distribution line also led to low pressure in several surrounding areas, with restoration taking several hours after emergency repairs.
