Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan, board member of ACI Logistics Limited and former president of Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), has passed away at the age of nearly 68.
Waliur Rahman breathed his last at 8am on Friday in the capital's Evercare Hospital.
After his namaz-e-janaza, he was laid to rest beside the graves of his parents in the city's Banani graveyard on the day, family sources said.
He was suffering from kidney disease and some other old age complications.
He left behind his wife Sajeda Rahman, one daughter, one son and a host of relatives and other well-wishers to mourn his death.
Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan joined Linde Bangladesh Limited (formerly BOC Bangladesh Limited) in 1975. He spent his entire professional life in the organisation and opted for early retirement in 2011 on health grounds. He was Managing Director and Adviser of BOC Bangladesh Limited and Linde Bangladesh Limited respectively.
Before his demise Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan held the Directorship position in Linde Bangladesh Limited, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and Eastland Insurance Company Limited.
He was also an Executive Board Member of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB).
Mr. Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan joined the Board of Advanced Chemical Industries (ACI) Limited in November 2007.
Born on July 2 in 1952, Mr. Bhuiyan did his Master's in Economics and MBA from Dhaka University.
He had been an adviser to Robi Axiata Limited since August 2011.
He was decorated with the Order of British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty The Queen of Great Britain in 2007. He was the Honorary Consul General of Finland to Bangladesh. He was also Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Chittagong Stock Exchange.
He served as the President of Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Executive Committee Member of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) as well as Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF).
He was a member of Bangladesh Better Business Forum, Steering Committee Member of British Business Group and Academic Council Member of BRAC University.
