The first namaz-e-janaza for former Speaker and former acting President Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was held in the capital on Sunday.
The janaza was held at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi after Zohr prayers.
His second janaza will be held after Asr prayers at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, after which he will be laid to rest on the Parliament premises.
Initially, three funeral prayers had been scheduled – at Taqwa Mosque, on the Supreme Court premises and the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. However, the janaza at the Supreme Court was cancelled due to rain.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday announced a nationwide mourning programme for Monday following the death of its Standing Committee member Jamiruddin Sircar.
He passed away at a city hospital in the morning.
