The government has urged media organisations and social media platforms not to broadcast or publish statements by ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, citing a court order and existing laws.
The request came in an official handout issued on Friday.
The handout said the International Crimes Tribunal had banned the broadcast of Hasina’s statements on Dec 5, 2024.
It described Hasina as a convicted fugitive and said Bangladeshi law restricted the publication or broadcast of statements, interviews and audio or video messages by convicted fugitives.
The government asked television and radio stations, newspapers, news portals and social media platforms not to air or publish any speech, statement or remarks by Hasina, either live or recorded, in the interest of maintaining law and order and respecting the court’s directive.
It also expressed hope that media organisations, relevant stakeholders and citizens would comply with the law and the court order.
