The government has appointed journalist Md Saidur Rahman as press minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
The Ministry of Public Administration announced the appointment in a notification issued on Monday.
Mr Rahman has been appointed for one year, with his term beginning on the date he joins the mission, the notification said.
The appointment is conditional on his relinquishing all professional ties with any other occupation, business, government or semi-government body, private institution or organisation, it added.
Mr Rahman studied mass communication and journalism at the University of Dhaka, where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
He began his journalism career as the university correspondent for the Dainik Dinkal before joining the Daily Ittefaq in 2007.
Following the July mass uprising, he became the newspaper’s politics and election affairs editor.
During his time at the university, he was involved with the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association and served as its general secretary in 2010.
He also previously served as president of the Reporters’ Forum for Election and Democracy, an organisation representing journalists covering the Election Commission.
The interim government had earlier appointed journalist Faisal Mahmud as press minister at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. His appointment was cancelled on 15 Feb following the election.
