July Charter: Which political parties signed, which did not

A total of 25 political parties have signed the July Charter, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, while several others have not.

Those who have signed did it at a ceremony at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka city on Friday afternoon.

The parties that signed the charter, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, are:

  1. Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)
  2. Khelafat Majlish
  3. Rastro Sangskar Andolon
  4. Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party)
  5. Nagorik Oikya
  6. National Democratic Movement (NDM)
  7. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)
  8. Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish
  9. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami
  10. Ganosamhati Andolon
  11. Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD)
  12. Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP)
  13. Bangladesher Biplobi Workers Party
  14. Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote
  15. 12-Party Alliance
  16. Islami Andolan Bangladesh
  17. Gano Forum
  18. Zaker Party
  19. Jatiya Gonofront
  20. Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party
  21. Bangladesh Labour Party
  22. Bhasani Jonoshokti Party
  23. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh
  24. Islami Oikya Jote
  25. Amjanatar Dal

Various leaders from the parties and alliance that signed the document attended the signing ceremony.

Parties that did not attend include the National Citizen Party (NCP), Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BaSaD), BaSaD (Marxist), and Bangladesh JaSaD.

The National Consensus Commission, which organised the July Charter signing ceremony, said it drafted the July Charter in two phases -- after discussions with 33 parties in the first phase and 30 parties in the second. The Jatiya Party was excluded from the dialogue process.

According to the Election Commission, Bangladesh currently has 52 registered political parties. However, the Awami League’s registration and activities remain suspended.

Martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho’s father, Mir Mostafizur Rahman, and Martyr Tahir Zaman Priyo’s mother, Shamsi Ara Begum, were present also present, representing the families of the July martyrs.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Vice Chair of the National Consensus Commission Professor Ali Riaz, other members of the commission, and advisers were also in attendance.
