A day after his arrest, freedom fighter and former Awami League Praesidium member Abdul Latif Siddique was produced before the International Crimes Tribunal.
He was brought to the tribunal in a microbus by the police detectives on Thursday afternoon.
His younger brother, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddique, was also seen at the court, reports bdnews24.com.
Latif is scheduled to be produced before Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury following his arrest in connection with the Shapla Chattar case on charges of murder and crimes against humanity.
Former minister Latif is suspect No. 10 on the list of the accused. The Detective Branch announced his arrest from Dhaka’s Gulshan on Wednesday evening.
While appearing before the magistrate's court in a case at Shahbagh Police Station on Wednesday morning, Latif had told reporters that he would “surrender” to the tribunal if the police did not arrest him in the Shapla Chattar case.
"I know that if I did not appear in court today, people would think I had gone into hiding. I do not usually go into hiding. I always want to face things openly. That is why I came today," he said.
"If the police do not arrest me, I will surrender before the tribunal on Sunday or Monday."
The former minister also denied his involvement in the incident.
"I was a minister then. But I don't know anything about the Shapla Chattar incident or anything else about that time," Latif said.
