Dhaka metro rail employees have threatened to launch a stricter programme if the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) fails to implement its service rules by next Thursday.
Employees from grades 9 to 16 of the DMTCL announced on Thursday after staging a sit-in protest in front of the gate of the company's Diabari head office for the fourth consecutive day.
Around 150 employees began the protest on July 28, ahead of a DMTCL board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, accusing the authorities of delaying the implementation of the company's service rules despite the board approving them last December.
Sources said the aggrieved employees have suspended their protest until next Thursday to give the authorities time to hold the board meeting scheduled for Wednesday (July 30).
DMTCL employees had earlier halted metro rail operations last December. Following the disruption, the board held an emergency meeting and approved the service rules, which have yet to be made effective.
