A petition has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), seeking an inquiry into alleged embezzlement, irregularities, and corruption in the procurement of vaccines and syringes for children, particularly those related to measles and other diseases, during the interim government period.
The application was filed on Monday by Supreme Court lawyer Biplob Kumar Das, UNB reports.
According to the petition, the recent surge in measles infections across the country, which reportedly led to the deaths of around a hundred children, has caused deep concern among citizens.
The applicant, identifying himself as a conscious citizen, said reports of vaccine shortages for measles and other critical diseases, as published in various media outlets, are alarming and demand urgent attention.
The petition further alleges that the immediate past interim government failed to procure vaccines despite an allocation of Tk 42,000 crore for the health sector, blaming former Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and former Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum for this.
It also noted that the current government has attributed the shortage of measles vaccines and syringes to issues created during the previous administration.
The petition calls on the ACC to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary legal action against those found responsible.
