PM to open Purbachal exhibition centre Thursday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the newly-built ‘Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre’ at Purbachal on Thursday.

She will inaugurate the permanent venue for different product-based fairs through a virtual programme on the day, reports BSS.

Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) undertook the ‘Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre Construction Project’ in Purbachal New City Project Area with the joint investment of Bangladesh and China, Project Director (Joint Secretary) Mohammad Rezaul Karim said on Wednesday.

He mentioned that the ‘China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC)’ has built the exhibition centre on 20 acres of land area with a cost of Tk 13.03 billion. Out of the total cost, China has provided Tk 6.26 billion for the project.

He said the centre has 33,000 square metres of floor space, including an exhibition hall covering 15,418 square meters.

The modern exhibition centre has its own water treatment plant, CATV control room, WiFi system for the internet, a modern fountain and remote-controlled entrance gate, he added.

He also informed that Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed and senior officials of the government, among others, are expected to remain resent at the Purbachal New City Project Area.
