Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has sought a recount of votes in at least 30 constituencies in the 13th parliamentary election, alleging widespread rigging, fraud and irregularities.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Moghbazar in the capital, Assistant Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Helal said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission (EC), seeking a recount of votes in those constituencies and urging the commission not to administer the oath to the declared members of parliament.
“So far, we have received allegations of vote rigging in 30 constituencies. More information is expected to come in, and those details will be shared with the media,” Helal said.
At the programme, Jamaat’s Dhaka-6 candidate Abdul Mannan also alleged that 'manipulation' in the vote-counting process had led to his defeat.
