Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed “United Students’ Alliance” vice president (VP) candidate Md. Abu Saidik Kayem has alleged that several organizations, including Chhatra Dal, violated the election code of conduct during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) polls.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Geology Department polling centre around 10:30 am. on Tuesday, Kayem said that distributing slips and leaflets within 100 yards of polling stations is prohibited, but many candidates—especially from Chhatra Dal were openly breaking that rule.
“Students have expressed their trust in the United Students’ Alliance,” he said. “The election has created a festive atmosphere among all candidates, but we want to remind everyone to behave responsibly. Through this DUCSU election, we are moving closer to realising the dream of July martyrs of a truly democratic university. That requires responsibility from everyone, especially the Election Commission, which must act more strictly to stop these violations.”
Kayem further claimed that he personally witnessed campaigners distributing slips within the restricted area and even entering polling centres. “This is unacceptable. A level playing field must be ensured. No student organisation should receive extra advantages,” he urged.
Encouraging students to cast their votes, Kayem added: “We want 100 percent student turnout. Let everyone vote for their preferred candidate. We believe students will ultimately place their trust in us, and with their support, we will achieve a landslide victory, Inshallah.
