Students withdrew their blockade at Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection on Wednesday evening after issuing a 10:00 pm ultimatum for Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon to resign.

They withdrew from the intersection around 7:30 pm after blocking it for about one and a half hours, allowing traffic movement to resume.

Announcing the suspension of the day’s programme, Dhanmondi Ideal College student Rahat Ahmed said the protesters did not want commuters to suffer because of the blockade.

“Our only demand is the resignation of the education minister. He must resign by 10:00 pm tonight,” he told reporters.

He said the students would march towards the Secretariat from the Science Laboratory intersection at 10:00 am on Thursday unless the minister stepped down within the deadline.

The protesters left the road following the announcement, and traffic resumed through the Shahbagh intersection.
