Concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned can be a vital means of supplementing the efforts of the present government to attain the target of inclusive development in the country through achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Utmost emphasis should be given on reaching the messages of the SDGs to the grassroots people so that they can contribute a lot this end.

The views were expressed by a large number of academics, professional leaders and development activists while addressing a seminar related to the achievement of SDGs on Monday.

Rajshahi chapter of ADAB, a coordinating body of Development Agencies in Bangladesh, organized the seminar titled “Role of Government, Development Agencies and Civil Societies to Achieve the SDGs by 2020” at Hotel Warisan in Rajshahi city.

ADAB Chairman Joyanta Adhikary addressed the meeting as chief guest while Prof ANK Noman from Department of Economics in Rajshahi University (RU) gave an overview of the SDGs’s 17 goals and 169 targets in his keynote presentation.

Assistant Professor Safiquzzaman Zoarder of RU’s Department of Sociology, Assistant Director of the Department of Social Services Dr Abdullah Al Firoj and Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat spoke on the occasion as panel discussants.

Chaired by ADAB’s local unit president Nur-E-Jannat Mitu, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Director of Barendra Unnayan Prochesta Foyzullah Chowdhury, Executive Director of Sachetan Hasinul Islam and columnist Shah Ziauddin.

The speakers unequivocally called for the best uses of existing natural resources and modern technologies besides safeguarding the marginal and other rootless populations for achieving the SDGs.

They also put forward a set of recommendations on how to achieve the cherished goals.

Prof. Noman mentioned that the present government had been working relentlessly to attain the SDGs. Emphasis should be given on proper and adequate rehabilitation of the vulnerable population for attaining the inclusive development.

All government and non-government entities concerned should come forward and work together to this end, reports BSS.
