Former International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Tureen Afroz has been shown arrested in a case filed by her brother over alleged property grabbing.

On Monday, a Dhaka court sent her to jail after granting a plea to show her arrest in a hearing held at the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain, bdnews24.com reports.

The plaintiff's lawyer Kafil Mahmud Raihan said an application had been filed to show Tureen arrested and she was produced before the court during the hearing.

After hearing both sides, the court granted the application, he added.

Tureen's brother, Shahnawaz Ahmad, filed the case on Dec 12, 2024, accusing her of using her influence and fraudulent means to misappropriate family property.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Mominul Islam submitted a report on Jul 23 last year, alleging that she had entered her mother’s residence with associates, vandalised furniture, forcibly taken property-related documents, prepared fraudulent affidavits, and issued death threats to the complainant and their mother.

Tureen had served as a prosecutor at the tribunal formed in 2010 to try war crimes cases, and played a role in several high-profile trials including that of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ghulam Azam.

She was removed from her post on Nov 11, 2019, after allegations of a secret meeting with former National Security Intelligence chief Muhammad Wahidul Haque during an ongoing war crimes case.

She later sought a nomination from the Awami League for the 2018 national election.

After the 2024 July Uprising, multiple cases were filed against her.
