Two more children with measles symptoms have died in the Sylhet Division, taking the death toll from suspected cases of the disease to 60 in the division.
The children died while undergoing treatment at two hospitals within the 24 hours from 8am on Friday to 8am on Saturday, said Sylhet Health Services Department Assistant Director Mohammad Noor Alam Shamim.
Among the deceased children, six-month-old Arifa was a resident of Osmaninagar Upazila in Sylhet. The child died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The other child, eight-month-old Abdullah Al Mahin, hailed from Zakiganj Upazila. The child died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
A report sent by the Sylhet Divisional Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on measles said that 237 patients with measles symptoms were undergoing treatment in various hospitals of Sylhet Division in the last 24 hours. During this time, 41 patients with measles symptoms were admitted to various hospitals.
Since Jan 1, 2026, 165 lab-confirmed measles cases have been identified in the division.
Of the 60 deaths, four of the dead children were diagnosed with measles in lab tests.
