Spain beat 10-man Argentina to win World Cup

Spain won the World Cup for the second time after beating 10-man Argentina 1-0 following extra time in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute, breaking the deadlock after the teams had finished the regulation 90 minutes goalless.

The substitute finished with his left foot after Pedro Porro’s cross was headed into his path by Nico Williams, rewarding Spain for their sustained pressure.

Argentina had been reduced to 10 men in stoppage time at the end of normal time when Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card for a foul on Pau Cubarsi.

The defending champions were unable to find an equaliser in the remaining minutes as Spain held on to lift their second World Cup trophy, 16 years after their first triumph in 2010.
