Stocks open week lower amid cautious trading

Stocks opened lower on Sunday, as cautious investors opted for booking profit on quick-gaining stocks.

After the first one and a half hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by more than 24 points or 0.43 per cent to 5,482 at 11:30 am, when the report was filed.

The blue-chip DS30 index, a group of 30 prominent companies, also lost more than 3 points to 1938 and the DSES index, which represents Shariah-based companies, fell  5 points to 1,202 till then.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 2.30 billion till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 77 advanced, 267 declined, and 44 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor till then.

Agni System was the most traded stock till then with shares worth Tk 148 million changing hands.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a negative trend with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—losing 18 points to stand at 15,632 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX lost 8 points to reach 9,423.
