Banglalink, the leading digital operator in Bangladesh, has announced a collaboration with Starlink Mobile to introduce the country’s first satellite-to-mobile service.
Starlink Mobile is the world’s largest and only satellite-to-mobile constellation that can power data, voice, video and messaging.
Driven by its ‘People First’ philosophy and a commitment to digital inclusion, Banglalink’s integration of Starlink’s advanced satellite technology marks a transformative milestone in the nation’s connectivity landscape.
This initiative ensures seamless access to the digital world, effectively eliminating ‘dead zones’ and bridging gaps in the most remote regions.
By delivering unmatched network resilience, Banglalink provides its customers with greater peace of mind through a reliable lifeline of communication, no matter how far off the grid they travel.
As long as users can see the sky, they will be able to send messages and stay in touch with family and essential digital services.
The service will initially support SMS and OTT messaging, with voice and data capabilities expected to follow in the future.
Bangladesh’s diverse geography, including hill tracts, riverine chars, coastal islands and offshore waters, often makes traditional telecom deployment challenging.
By complementing Banglalink’s nationwide network with satellite connectivity, the initiative will extend reliable communication to underserved communities, strengthen connectivity during natural disasters, and support emergency communication.
The launch is currently awaiting approval from the relevant authorities and is expected soon.
Johan Buse, Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink, said: “Connectivity is about care; it matters most when it reaches people wherever they are. Some communities remain beyond the reach of traditional networks because of our unique geography. By providing satellite-enabled coverage with Starlink, we aim to bridge those gaps and ensure people can stay connected, even in the most remote parts of the country.”
Stephanie Bednarek, Vice President of Starlink Mobile Sales, said: “We are so proud to offer satellite-to-mobile connectivity in collaboration with Banglalink and enable millions of people to stay connected in remote locations. Bangladesh marks the third market that will leverage Starlink Mobile in partnership with VEON, which underscores the unified commitment between our companies to deliver essential communications.”
This launch is part of a broader collaboration between VEON and Starlink to expand satellite-enabled mobile connectivity across VEON markets.
Following successful implementations in Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Bangladesh will become the third VEON operator to introduce this transformative technology, reinforcing Banglalink’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in the digital age.
