BRAC Bank recently organized a series of ‘Uthan Boithak’ sessions across four districts to promote financial literacy and encourage the use of formal banking channels for inward remittances.
The sessions were held at the Damurhuda Agent Banking Outlet in Chuadanga, Charvita and Rupdia outlets in Jashore, Rajapur outlet in Magura, and Daserhat outlet in Lakshmipur. Expatriate families and local community members participated in the interactive discussions.
The programme focused on raising awareness about the safety, transparency, and reliability of formal remittance channels, while highlighting the risks associated with informal methods such as hundi. Bank officials emphasized that remitting funds through legal banking channels not only ensures the security of customers’ money but also contributes to the country’s foreign exchange reserves and economic stability.
During the sessions, participants were introduced to BRAC Bank’s ‘Probashi Poribar’ accounts, specially designed for expatriates and their families. The banking solutions offer convenient access to savings, transactions, and other financial services, helping families build long-term financial security.
Officials also encouraged prudent financial management of remittance income, advising beneficiaries to utilise the funds for education, small businesses, savings, and asset creation to ensure sustainable economic progress at both household and national levels.
The events received an encouraging response, with nearly 70 per cent of participants identified as new remittance beneficiaries who did not previously maintain accounts with BRAC Bank. Agent Banking officials at the sessions expressed their commitment to bringing these families under formal banking services through prompt onboarding support.
As a token of appreciation, BRAC Bank presented special gifts to the top remittance recipients at each location in recognition of their trust in formal banking channels.
Through such grassroots initiatives, BRAC Bank continues to strengthen financial inclusion, deepen engagement with migrant families, and promote secure, fast, and productive remittance services across the country.
