CHATTOGRAM, July 15: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) sent an emergency letter to the Bangladesh Bank Governor on Wednesday requesting him not to entertain any proposal to impose any new charge or increase existing ones on any banking services, provided to bank clients.
CCCI President Mohammed Amirul Haque sent the letter to Bangladesh Bank Governor.
In the letter, the CCCI president said that through the reports published recently in news media, the business community has come to know that the Association of Bankers of Bangladesh (ABB) sent recently a proposal to Bangladesh Bank Governor to allow imposition of charges/fees on 14 new service heads as well as an increase in the rate on some heads of services.
The CCCI president said that business community presumed, this sort of proposals making obligatory some unnecessary expenses for the ordinary subscribers and businessmen to bear might help bolster the profit margin of the banks but the steps should elevate the cost of doing business and dwindle the competitiveness of indigenous products and services.
