The Dhaka University and Shahbagh metro stations will remain temporarily closed on Tuesday, April 14, on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, according to a press release issued by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
As per the announcement, the Shahbagh Metro Station will remain closed until 12:00 pm, while the Dhaka University Metro Station will remain shut throughout the day.
The temporary closure is likely to affect commuters travelling to the Dhaka University and Shahbagh areas, which usually witness large crowds during Bangla New Year celebrations, particularly around Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan and the university campus.
In the notice, signed by Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, deputy project director (public relations) of MRT Line-6, DMTCL expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to passengers.
The move comes as authorities have taken extensive security and traffic measures across the capital ahead of the Pahela Baishakh celebrations, with major public gatherings expected in the Dhaka University and Shahbagh areas.
