Hassan O. Rashid has taken charge as the Managing Director of Eastern Bank PLC. (EBL). Prior to joining EBL, Mr. Hassan served as the Chief Executive Officer of Prime Bank PLC.
With over 31 years of professional experience across both local and multinational banks, he brings a wealth of leadership expertise spanning diverse banking domains. He held senior leadership roles at Crédit Agricole Indosuez, HSBC, and Standard Chartered Bank, according to a media release.
Hassan is widely recognized for his strong track record in transformation, innovation, and strategic leadership. During his earlier tenure at EBL as Additional Managing Director (2015–2021), he played a pivotal role in strengthening the bank’s position as a leading financial institution. Under his leadership, EBL doubled its balance sheet, significantly expanded its trade finance portfolio, and introduced pioneering financial instruments such as commercial papers and zero-coupon bonds.
Over the course of his career, he has been instrumental in financing landmark infrastructure projects, developing SME banking into a key growth engine, and enhancing operational risk management frameworks.
Hassan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from Capital University, USA, and a Master’s degree in International Management from the Garvin School of International Management, Thunderbird, USA. He is a recipient of the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award and holds a “Credit Professional” certification from Omega, UK.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Hassan is actively engaged in various professional and social organizations. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), and is a member of the Rotary Club of Ramna and Kurmitola Golf Club.
He is also a past President of the St. Joseph Old Boys’ Association. In his personal time, he enjoys golfing and long-distance running, the release adds.
