Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Bangladesh has appointed Alamgir Morshed as its new country manager, effective from July 16, 2026, according to a press release Thursday.

HBL Bangladesh, one of Asia's leading regional banks with a presence across multiple international markets, said Mr Morshed brings more than three decades of banking and financial services experience, with expertise in commercial banking, treasury, financial markets and development finance.

The bank said his leadership experience and knowledge of the financial sector are expected to strengthen HBL Bangladesh's commitment to delivering value to its clients and stakeholders.

Before joining HBL Bangladesh, Mr Morshed served as the chief executive officer of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL). Earlier, he spent more than 26 years at Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh, where he held several senior leadership positions, including managing director and head of Global Banking and Financial Institutions, head of Commercial Banking, and head of Financial Markets.

Mr Morshed holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He has also completed executive education programmes at Harvard University, Oxford University and INSEAD.

Commenting on the appointment, HBL Bangladesh expressed confidence that Mr Morshed's extensive experience, strategic vision and leadership would play an important role in supporting the bank's continued growth and strengthening its position in the Bangladesh market.
