High rank deligates of USTR to visit Dhaka soon

Commerce Minister Khandker Abdul Muktadir met US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen on Tuesday at the Secretariat.

They talked about how to increase trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

The US ambassador said Parliament is working smoothly under Prime Minister and Parliament Leader Tarique Rahman.

He said this is a good example of democracy. The ambassador also said stronger trade ties will benefit both countries.

He said that Brendan Lynch, Assistant US Trade Representative (USTR) for South and Central Asia, will visit Bangladesh soon to improve trade talks.

He is also interested in Bangladesh’s new import policy.

The commerce minister said the government is preparing the new import policy with other ministries.

He hopes the draft of the “Import Policy Order 2026” will soon be shared with business groups for their opinions.

Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation in trade, investment, and policy.

Commerce Ministry Secretary (routine duty) Md Abdur Rahim Khan and US Embassy Political-Economic Counselor Eric Geelan were also present at the meeting.
