MA Khan Belal was elected chairman of the board of directors of Mercantile Bank PLC at the bank's 490th board meeting held at its head office in Dhaka on Thursday (July 30).
Before being elected chairman, Mr Belal served as the chairman of the bank's executive committee, according to a press release Saturday.
With broad experience in trade, industry, shipping and banking, Mr Belal has established several companies in Bangladesh and currently serves as chairman of the Samrat Group of Companies.
He is also the president of the Noakhali Zilla Samiti.
According to the press release, Belal has been involved in social welfare initiatives, including activities related to education, healthcare and social development. He is also the founder of several schools, madrasas, mosques and other socio-cultural organisations in Begumganj.
