South Korea's automobile sale fell last month on weak demand both at home and abroad, industry data showed Monday.
The number of cars sold and made by five domestic automakers, including Hyundai, Kia, Ssangyong, GM Korea and Renault Samsung, was 639,435 in August, down 2.9 per cent from a year earlier.
Auto export reduced 2.1 per cent over the year to 520,956 in August, while the domestic car sale shrank 6.2 per cent to 118,479 in the month.
Hyundai's global car sale diminished 6.2 per cent over the year to 363,045 last month, including 52,897 at home and 310,148 abroad.
Kia's auto sale gained 2.1 per cent to 228,871 in the month, including 43,362 at home and 185,509 abroad.
Ssangyong's auto sales at home and abroad contracted to 10,015 in the month, while GM Korea's vehicle sale grew 6.1 per cent to 24,517.
Renault Samsung's car export declined 7.3 per cent to 5,216 in August, but its vehicle sale in the local market added 9.3 per cent to 7,771.
