Summit LNG (SLNG), a concern of Summit Group, has extended its Livelihood Enhancement Plan (LEP) in Moheshkhali for another year, aiming to continue improving income opportunities for local fishing communities.
The renewed phase will run until September 2026, following the completion of the first phase of the programme implemented between 2020 and 2024 in partnership with Young Power in Social Action (YPSA), says a media release.
During the first phase, the company provided skills training to 1,591 beneficiaries and disbursed grants worth around Tk 10 million. Small-scale fishermen from Ghotibhanga, Sonadia, Tajiakata, and Nayapara received training in boat repair, enabling many to earn Tk 9,000 to Tk 12,000 per month.
Women participants received tailoring training and electric sewing machines, and were also trained in weaving fishing nets and hygienic sun drying of fish using solar tents.
SLNG also renovated Sonadia Government Primary School at a cost of about Tk 4.0 million and handed it over to local authorities.
Summit LNG Terminal and Young Power in Social Action signed an agreement to implement the extension of the LEP.
Senior officials from both SLNG and YPSA attended the extension signing event.
From SLNG - Md Sayedul Alam, Managing Director & CEO, Mohammed Shamsul Alam, Advisor, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Sr. Manager and Md. Mehedi Hasan Ovi, Deputy Manager, EHS and from YPSA - Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Founder and Chief Executive, Nasim Banu, Director, Social Development Department and Md. Nazmul Haider, Assistant Director, were present at the signing ceremony.
