The Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that had asked to hold the election of executive committee of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) within September 20.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Monday.

Earlier, on May 28, the High Court stayed for three months the commerce ministry’s decision to extend the tenure of executive committee of the Baira, clearing the way for holding its election on June 24.

Later, following a supplementary petition, on July 4 the HC asked to hold the election within September 20 as the tenure of the present committee will be expired on July 12, UNB reported.

Later, the Baira filed a petition against the HC order.

Barrister Rashna Imam, who stood for the petitioner, said the Director of Trade Union of the relevant ministry will take charge on July 13 and hold the election within September 20.
