Bangladesh will launch Bangla QR nationwide on July 1, 2026, marking a significant step in digital payments. Developed by Bangladesh Bank as the unified QR-based payment standard, Bangla QR is designed to simplify, secure, and accelerate digital transactions. This initiative will enable customers to make payments through any bank or Mobile Financial Service (MFS) app by scanning a single QR (Quick-Response) code.

Official Launch & National Campaign: To ensure widespread adoption and awareness, Bangladesh Bank inaugurated the Bangla QR campaign program on June 10 2026, at its headquarters. The event was attended by the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of scheduled banks, Mobile Financial Service (MFS) providers, Payment Service Providers (PSPs), and Payment System Operators (PSOs). The Governor of the Bangladesh Bank officially launched the campaign and emphasised the importance of a unified QR payment system in accelerating Bangladesh’s digital transformation. Bangladesh Bank, together with financial institutions and payment stakeholders, is conducting extensive promotional activities to educate customers and merchants about the benefits of Bangla QR. The initiative is expected to make interbank digital payments easier, faster, safer, and more inclusive for all citizens.

One Country, One QR: The central idea behind Bangla QR is “One Country, One QR: Transactions through Bangla QR.” Rather than multiple codes for each provider, merchants display a single Bangla QR code that works with any bank or MFS app. This interoperability breaks down payment barriers and enhances the customer experience. With Bangla QR, users do not need to carry cash, look for change, or worry about counterfeit notes. Payments happen instantly by smartphone, whether shopping, dining, or paying fares.

Bangla QR represents a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s move toward a fully digital economy. It enables interoperable QR-based payments across banks, mobile financial services, and payment providers, streamlining transactions and supporting the government’s vision of a smart, digital Bangladesh.

Benefits: Customers benefit from free transactions, fast and convenient payments completed within seconds, and enhanced security through regulated financial institutions. Bangla QR also supports a cashless lifestyle by removing the need to carry cash or search for change.

Merchants benefit from a single QR code that accepts payments from multiple banks and MFS providers, a faster checkout process that improves customer service, and reduced risks associated with cash handling and counterfeit currency.

Bangla QR aims to create a seamless and inclusive digital payment ecosystem, enabling cashless transactions for a variety of everyday activities in both urban and rural areas. Using a single interoperable QR code, customers can pay quickly, securely, and conveniently through their preferred banking or payment service applications.

Toll Payments. Motorists can pay bridge, expressway, and flyover tolls instantly by scanning QR codes, reducing congestion and wait times.

Utility Bill Payments. Customers can pay electricity, internet, and television bills with Bangla QR by scanning the code and using any banking or MFS app. No additional apps are required.

Educational Institution Fees. Students and parents can pay school, college, and university fees digitally with Bangla QR codes, eliminating queues and simplifying fee collection.

Tourism and Remote Areas. Bangla QR extends digital payments to rural and remote areas, allowing tourists and residents to make secure payments at local businesses.

End note: The nationwide implementation of Bangla QR on July 01 2026 represents a major milestone. The nationwide rollout of Bangla QR on July 1, 2026, marks a major milestone in Bangladesh’s progress toward a digitally empowered economy. By promoting interoperability, convenience, security, and financial inclusion, Bangla QR is expected to accelerate digital payment adoption across all segments of society. This initiative supports Bangladesh Bank’s vision of a modern, efficient, and cashless financial ecosystem that benefits customers, merchants, and the national economy.
