A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel has reportedly shot dead two fellow soldiers at a camp in Malda of India's West Bengal, bordering Bangladesh's Chapainawabganj.
The shooting took place on Thursday at the BSF camp in Baishnabnagar, and the accused jawan was arrested after the incident, according to an NDTV report run by bdnews24.com.
According to the Indian broadcaster, two personnel were killed and another seriously injured.
It said the accused had faced disciplinary action about a year earlier over allegations of opening fire on fellow personnel.
He was punished under BSF rules, and that disciplinary term ended only a few days ago.
The suspect, identified as Shivam Mishra from Chhattisgarh, allegedly opened fire on his colleagues that afternoon.
The dead were identified as 51-year-old Ajay Kumar Singh from Bihar and 37-year-old Ambadar Suresh Dargu from Maharashtra.
The injured BSF member, identified as 44-year-old Bikash Brahma from Hooghly district in West Bengal, was taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital.
All three belonged to the BSF's 71st Battalion.
Officers at Baishnabnagar Police Station have launched an investigation.
Malda Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh said investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Surendra Kumar Jha, deputy inspector general of the BSF's Malda Sector, said a departmental inquiry had also begun.
According to the report, Mishra had been due to return home after completing his disciplinary punishment.
The shooting has triggered concern in the area.
