Bangladesh has taken Dhaka International Airport expansion project. The expansion will help the airport to double its passengers handling capacity.

The project includes the construction of a new terminal for international travelers as well as a new cargo terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The government hopes to open the new facility in August 2022.

The new facility will help the airport to handle 12 million passengers annually. It will be 50 per cent higher than the number of passengers handled presently.

Major Japanese construction consultancy Nippon Koei has won the order for the airport expansion project , along with four local partners, for some 4.6 billion yen ($42.1 million), reports asia.nikkei.com.

The project will cost an estimated 192 billion yen, which will be provided by the Japanese government as yen loans.

The consortium plans to hold an auction between later this year and early next year to invite bids for the construction of the planned facilities. Construction is scheduled to start next year.-SAA
