Dipu Moni terms ‘lifelong learning’ driving force of dev

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Friday said lifelong learning is the main driving force of development in the 21st century.

She said this at an international conference on 'Lifelong Learning in Developing Countries with special reference to Bangladesh' at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in the capital.

"Lifelong learning should be an integral part of the education system. Prophet Muhammad encouraged all to learn from cradle to grave. It's a lifelong learning," she said.

Dipu Moni also emphasised on the education system for achieving Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. "Education sector is developing fast across the world. Bangladesh is a developing country. So, education quality should be firmly developed here," she said, reports UNB.

"Bangladesh is progressing. Now the country's GDP growth is 7.8 per cent. We expect it to increase to 10 per cent in future. So, the people should be educated more and give importance to social development, including women empowerment and adult education," the minister said.

Dipu Moni urged the students for developing their skills.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) organised the two-day conference, with assistance from UNESCO, and Bangladesh Institute of Life Long Learning.

Anders Halo, Professor of the University of Copenhagen, Sun Li of UNESCO Dhaka office and Kazi Rafiqul Alam, president of DAM, were also present at the programme.
