Heart diseases claim 17.5m lives in world every yr

Cardiovascular diseases are causing 17.5 million deaths in the world every year.

But 80 per cent of the deaths caused by heart diseases can be reduced by creating awareness among people about the diseases and ways to prevent them, experts said at a programme in the city on Wednesday.

They said heart is the most vital organ of the body which means, a good heart can create a healthy man.

They came up with the information and data about the cardiovascular diseases after participating in a rally held on the occasion of the World Heart Day 2017.

Zainul Haque Sikder Women’s College and Hospital Private Limited organised the programme at Gulshan in the morning.

The rally started at 8:00am from the Gulshan campus of Zainul Haque Sikder Women’s College and Hospital and ended at the same place after parading different city streets.

Dr. Mohammed Saizuddin Karim, Principal of the college and Dr. Lokesh B M, administrator of the hospital, jointly led the rally, participated by students and staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Mohammed Saizuddin Karim said the main purpose of this programme was to create awareness among the people about the heart diseases.

He said if the people want to prevent cardiovascular diseases, they should keep maintaining three things.

Firstly, they should do physical exercise every day. Secondly, they should maintain balanced diet with intake of food like fruit and vegetables while avoiding junk food, including candy, sweet desserts and fried fast food that are harmful to human body. Thirdly, bad habits like smoking and taking alcohol must be avoided in order to posses a healthy heart.

Addressing the programme, Administrator of the hospital Dr. Lokesh B M said: “We can reduce almost 80 per cent deaths caused by the cardiovascular diseases by creating awareness in the society."
