Patients of Bishwanath upazila are being deprived of government healthcare facilities due to alleged absence of doctors at the upazila health complex and other irregularities.

Patients alleged that they find no doctor when they come to the health complex. Only a nurse is seen there who even doesn't know the doctor's phone number, they said.

Upon a visit on December 5, a reporter found that many patients thronged the health complex compound to take treatment but no physicians were available.

The environment of the health complex is very unhygienic despite an allocation to keep the hospital neat and clean, no work is done to maintain its cleanliness, alleged patients.

Shahana Begum, a patient who came from Amtoil village, said," I have been staying at the hospital for the last seven days. But my bed sheet was not changed during the period."

Another patient Piara Begum from Sreepur village, said that they are in trouble after coming to health complex as no doctors are present to check patients' condition.

"We have to come here because we are unable to bear the cost of treatment at private clinics. But here we're not getting proper treatment," she said.

Many victim patients alleged that they are returning back from the hospital upon finding no doctors.

The government constructed the hospital building spending a lot of money and is providing medicines at free of cost. But they do not get any treatment at the hospital, reports UNB.

When contacted, upazila health officer Dr Abdur Rahman said that he will look into the matter.
