66.64pc pass HSC, equivalent exams

The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) 2018 and its equivalent examinations were published on Thursday, showing the pass rate at 66.64 per cent, which is 2.27 per cent lower than 68.91 per cent of the last year.

Of these, 64.55 per cent passed the HSC examinations while 78.67 per cent came out successful in Madrasah Board and 75.55 per cent in Technical Board examinations.

A total of 8,58,801 examinees, out of 12,88,757, came out successful in the examinations in all the 10 education boards of the country.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with chairmen of all the education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban around 10:10 am. The Prime Minister unveiled the results digitally.

This year, a total of 29,262 students secured the highest grade GPA 5 against 37,969 last year.

Among the successful students, 25,562 achieved the highest grade GPA 5 under eight general education boards while 1,244 under the Madrassah Education Board and 2,456 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.

The Prime Minister exchanged views with students of Netrakona through a videoconference from her residence on the occasion.

Addressing the event, the Education Minister said this year the results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations were published within 55 days after the examinations were held from April 2 to May 23.

The results will be available online and at respective institutions after 1:00 pm.

The minister also claimed that this year’s examinations were held without any complaint and the number of students is also increased which proved that the number of dropout students is reducing.

“Now we are giving importance to raising the standards of education, though the pass rate was lower, the quality of education is raising,” said Nahid.

State Minister for Madrasah and Technical Education Division Kazi Keramat Ali also spoke on the occasion, while Secondary & Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohorab Hossain delivered the welcome speech.

Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman conducted the programme.

All candidates can get their results from their respective examination centres; educational institutions; websites of their respective boards and through SMS on their mobile phones from 1:00 pm.

They can also get the results, logging on to the website www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.

To get the results through mobile phones, the candidates have to type HSCfirst three letters of the respective boardsroll number2018 and then send it to 16222.

As for Alim results, the students have to write AlimMadroll number2018 and sent to 16222 while the students of vocational courses have to type HSCTecroll number2018 and send it to 1622.

A total of 12,88,757 students participated in this year’s HSC and its equivalent examinations which were held from April 2 to May 23.
