A young man was hacked to death by miscreants in front of his wife in Barguna district town on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rifat Sharif, 22, son of Dulal Sharif of Maitha Labongola in Sadar upazila.

Witnesses said four miscreants, including Nayan and Rifat Farazi, swooped on Sharif at the main gate of Barguna College as soon as he dropped his wife there.

The attackers chopped the youth with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

He was first taken to Sadar Hospital and then sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal, where he succumbed to his injuries around 4:00pm.

The entire incident was captured in a surveillance camera. It was seen in the footage that the miscreants were hacking Sharif indiscriminately while his wife was trying to prevent the attackers.

However, the attackers pushed her aside and continued to hack the youth until his entire body was stained with blood, UNB reported.

Dulal Sharif said his son married Ayesha Akhter Minni, a student of Barguna College, of the Police Lines area two months back.

However, claiming her as his former wife, Nayan started harassing her and uploaded her indecent photos on social networking site Facebook, he said, adding that Nayan, Rifat Farazi, Rishan Farazi and Rabbi Akon swooped on his son in the morning.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abir Mahmud Hossain said they were trying to arrest the killers after identifying them scrutinising the video footage.
