Bangladesh has laid emphasis on the peaceful use of the oceans, the equitable and efficient utilisation of the resources, the conservation of the living resources and the protection and preservation of the marine environment.
Secretary (Maritime Affairs Unit) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral Khurshed Alam has conveyed Bangladesh’s position as a party to United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) at a meeting in New York, a foreign ministry press release said on Thursday.
The secretary is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the 28th meeting of states parties to the UNCLOS held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on June 11-14, reports BSS.
The meeting has been attended by delegations from almost all the States Parties to the UNCLOS.
Bangladesh’s active participation in the meeting will further strengthen its position at international arena in claiming rightful share in the resources of the ocean, said the release.
