Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said that Bangladesh is in discussion with the United States for extradition of Rashed Chowdhury, one of the killers of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“We have a very good relationship with the US. We are discussing how to bring the killer back” he said while speaking at a programme organised by ’21 August Bangladesh’, a central organisation of the families of those killed and injured in the grenade attack of August 21, 2004.

The minister also said the current US leaders are providing enough support to bring him back to Bangladesh legally.

The programme was organised to demand execution of the verdict of Bangabandhu’s killing through bringing back the killers in the country and ensure faster judgment of the grenade attack case.

Speaking as the chief guest Anisul Huq said that extradition of another convict Noor Chowdhury from Canada is facing some legal complications as the country has no provision for death penalty, therefore doesn’t return any convict to a country where he/she may get executed.

The effort to bringing Noor back is still on, he added.

Referring to the judicial process going on for the grenade attack, the law minister expressed his hope that the verdict may come by September as the last defence argument of the case with former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, one of the accused in the case, might end soon.
