Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJS) has placed an 18-point proposal for the water transport sector in order to maintain a safe and hassle-free journey during Eid.
In their proposal, the rights body asked to check overcrowding on water vessels, charging of extra fair and lessees’ domination at the ferry terminals in order to keep people’s Eid journey trouble free.
BJS demanded their proposal meet with immediate effect in a media statement, signed by its secretary general of Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury on Wednesday.
“Apart from running overcrowded vessels, the water transport owners force people to pay extra fair during Eid,” Chowdhury said, adding that the unscrupulous owners do not follow the government-set fair during this period.
Citing media reports, the rights body said transport insiders hand over cabin tickets to black market to make extra money.
It urged the authorities concerned to maintain strict control and check irregularities during Eid.
