BRAC University student killed in motorcycle accident

A student of BRAC University was killed on Thursday after a covered-van rear-ended the motorcycle on which she was riding pillion.

The victim has been identified as Fahmida Labonya, 21, a student of BRAC University’s Computer Science and Engineering Department.

The road accident took place around 12:10pm in front of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the capital’s Shyamoli area, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Jan-e-Alam Munshi told the FE.

Fahmida was heading to the university using a ride sharing service, and suddenly a covered-van hit the two-wheeler from behind, the police official said,  adding that the on-duty doctors declared the victim dead after the motorcyclist rushed her to Shaheed Suhrwardy Medical College Hospital.

The motorcyclist also got injured, but the police could not identify him immediately as he escaped after rushing Fahmida to the hospital.

The body of Fahmida is kept in the hospital morgue.

Investigation is underway since the incident, the police official added.

No case was lodged till the filing of this report.
