Child murder, suicide rise significantly

Incidents of murder and suicide of children marked a significant rise in three months from September to November of this year over the corresponding period of the last year, according to a children’s rights body.

Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) in its latest statistics revealed that at least 119 children were killed, 118 minor girls raped and 73 committed suicide from September to November 2018, while 66 children were killed, 149 raped and 67 committed suicide during the same period of 2017.

The rape and murder incidents numbered 85 and 201 respectively in 2012, 150 and 180 in 2013, 199 and 366 in 2014, 521 and 292 in 2015, 446 and 265 in 2016, and 593 and 399 in 2017.
