A fisherman was beaten to death during a clash over stealing a fishing net at Tanki Bazar in Ramgati upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was Saheb Ali, a resident of Bayarchar.
“Baharuddin, a fisherman of the area, alleged that Saheb Ali had stolen some of his fishing nets, police said.
The clash ensued when Bahar, along with his followers, went to the house of Saheb Ali to search the latter's house.
During the clash, associates of Bahar beat up Saheb Ali mercilessly, leaving him seriously inured, as per UNB report.
Later, Saheb died while being taken to Noakhali General Hospital, said officer-in-charge of Ramgati Police Station M Iqbal Hossain.
The body was sent to morgue for autopsy.
