Coconut cultivation is on the rise across the district for high profit.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Tangail sources, coconut is grown on 582 hectares of land in the district.
Around 5,144 tonnes of yield are generally achieved every year, officials said, adding, the cultivation is expanding every year.
DAE officials said coconut can be grown at homestead, fallow land, main crop field or even roadside.
About 1,000 growers of the district are engaged in growing coconut in the area and Most of them cultivate the item on commercial basis, they added.
Ainul Haque Chakladar of Chouhali village under Tangail Sadar said he has 15 coconut trees at his homestead.
The farmer makes profit of around Tk 10,000 to Tk 15,000 from the item every year.
DAE official sources said saplings are distributed among the growers who take part in training course of the department on coconut cultivation.
Trader Shafiqur Rahman of Pachani Bazar area said he has been doing green coconut business over the last 20 years.
He sells around 250 to 300 green coconuts per day.
A green coconut is sold at Tk 35 to Tk 50 as per the size.
DAE official Ruhul Amin said high-yielding coconut cultivation started in the district in 2016.
Under the project, 11,724 saplings of two Vietnamese varieties - seam blue and seam green and 50 saplings of Kerala varieties were provided among the interest farmers in the area, he added.
The officials also said some 2,260 coconut saplings have been distributed to the local farmers at free of cost and 1,908 were provided to exhibit at different fair by the department.
Moreover, 1,638 saplings were sold to the growers in cash.
"DAE has also raised some 4,279 more coconut saplings", Mr Amin further said.
