Several thousand people are suffering extremely as a bridge has collapsed blocking the Ramu Monirjhil-Sonaichari Link Road in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar recently.
Public sufferings have peaked as people from Sonaichhari union of Naikhongchhari upazila and Rajarkul and Kauwarkhop unions of Ramu upazila travel every day by using this important road.
Due to the collapse of the connecting bridge, vehicular movement has stopped on both sides of the road.
Although a makeshift bridge has been built there by using bamboo and wood planks, local residents and school-going children somehow manage to travel across the road risking their lives.
Apart from these, traders as well as farmers have to suffer a lot while transporting merchandise and agricultural produce.
Locals said that the people of the area were suffering immensely due to the collapse of the Dingakata Bridge.
A few days ago, two children got injured falling off the wooden bridge and such incidents may happen any moment for the prevailing situation.
Elderly people and pregnant women feel it extremely risky to cross over the shaky temporary bridge.
Farmers cannot transport their agricultural produce to Ramu market for sale due to the suspension of traffic on the road for a long time.
Under such circumstances, locals have raised a demand for constructing a permanent bridge at the site to ensure their regular commute.
Biman Barua, a resident of Sonaichhari union, said, "Road communication in the neighbourhood has been cut off due to the collapse of the Dingakata Bridge that occurred from landslide."
